The Ninth Year is…Pottery
Apparently, the traditional gift for one’s ninth wedding anniversary is….Pottery. An alternative gift is wicker. (Because, you know, THAT is so much more romantic.)
Unless you are in the UK, and then the traditional gift is…copper. Because that is SO much better than pottery, of course.
I bring this up because today is our anniversary, mine and the Hubs’.
Nine years.
Nine years, two kids, one dog, two houses, one international move. Good stuff.
Never a dull moment.
Nine years ago today, I married my husband in our little church, surrounded by friends and family. As I stood on the altar with him, Father Al asked us to turn around and look at the congregation. There really was just a special feeling in the church that day – I don’t know what to call it, a sense of spirit. Of love. It was palpable – I had others comment on it to me, too. Whatever it was, it was a blessed day.
That day, along with the births of both of my children, ranks as one of the most wonderful days of my life. (I’m sure it ranked right up there in my Mom’s top ten, too – her OLD oldest daughter was finally married. And pigs didn’t even fly in a frozen hell. Go figure.)
I waited for my husband. He was worth the wait.
I feel blessed that he has hung in there, too, as I’m not the easiest person to live with – half of the temper our kids possess, along with Boo’s hypersensitivity and Pea’s indecisiveness come from me. (The rest of the temper and all of the impatience, along with the fussiness? That’s all on you, baby.)
It’s been an amazing 9 years. I can’t wait to see where we go next on this amazing journey.
Happy anniversary, honey. I love you.
Oh, and your anniversary gift?
How about a(nother) coffee mug?
