Fourth of July Twinkie Cake
If you are a follower of a Paleo or whole foods lifestyle, look away. I’ll be back with a fun drink ice or post momentarily, but for now, I’d like to talk about a dessert that includes ingredients that do not fall on your super healthy shopping list. This is a FUN dessert with some fruit thrown in so it isn’t totally crazy:
Twinkie cake.
Let’s be honest, there are two kinds of people: the “Twinkie – YUM!” and the “there is nothing natural about that snack cake” people. And yes, while the ingredient list reads (to those who bother) like a college chemistry experiment, Twinkies are yummy. (Obviously, I fall into the former category. My husband falls into the latter, and will likely not come near the dessert. Which is fine, as it means more for us.)
I digress.
We were doing a fast run through the grocery store today and the kiddos spied the Minion Twinkies. I’ve been a grump and wanted to be fun mom today, so I said yes. And then decided we needed to eat them up fast, or I would take care of it for them.
I mean, aren’t these hilarious! (We love the Minions….)
It has four ingredients: Twinkies, Cool Whip, strawberries and blueberries. This isn’t haute cuisine, people, but it IS a fun dessert that your kiddos can make for you, if they are old enough to use a knife. You don’t like strawberries? You can use raspberries. Not a fan of Cool Whip? You can whip up real whipped cream, go for it, or use that can of squirty cream if that is what floats your boat. You just slice up the Twinkies, lay them in a dish, top with whipped topping and then berries. And eat. Nom.
I’ll even fancy it up by making an official-like recipe for you. You’re welcome.
[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:2]It’s a fun treat that you can let the kids put together on the fly. It’s yummy. Go on, you know you want to try it.
What recipes do you like that you are embarrassed to own up to?
