So I’m Not Actually Silent on Sunday….

I’m not so good at being silent on Sunday. (Or any other day, really, but I digress….) Some days I post a photo, but really, I want to tell the WHOLE story. This is the post-script to today’s “Silent Sunday” post. Weekends are for exploring. Quite possibly my favorite place in all of this lovely town is the Warren. I walk our mad spaniel there several days a week, exhausting us both throwing sticks into the river for her to fetch. And mostly return. (Some get eaten. Bad dog.) It has an ethereal quality, particularly on days that are a bit overcast. Sunny days are stunning, but there seems to…

    Fill in the Blank Friday

It’s been quite a week, and since I’ve been a bit lost in my head (but that is for another post) I thought I should come out and play, and a good set of “fill in the blanks” always brings a smile to my face! This week, Lauren from the Little Things We Do has offered up a list of firsts. 1. My first memory is Walking home with Grandpa Fritz on his noon lunch break. My Gram watched me during the day while my Mom worked, and she lived only two or so blocks away from the glass factory, so we would meet Grandpa at the corner. I couldn’t…

I’ve Been Sucked Into the Black Hole that is Pinterest….and I Can’t Find My Way Out

I love Pinterest. Pinterest is full of really fabulous ideas. And I like pictures. But. I am starting to hate Pinterest. Pinterest provides me with all kinds of inspiration. Some of which is leading me to obsession. Why? Because, dear friends, some of those pins are a year old now. AND THE STORES NO LONGER CARRY THIS STUFF!!!! Take my master bedroom. (No, really. Someone take it and fix it up. I need to live closer to Canada, as I really need Candace Olsen at this point.)  My bedspread is (counting on my fingers…and toes) just over 10 years old. People, that’s ancient in the life of a comforter. It…

    In Her World….

Last night at dinner, the kids were making up stories. Pea begain with “I’m a princess…” and Boo interrupted with “You always say you’re a princess…but you’re not a princess!!!!” to which Pea primly replied, “In my world, I am!!!” Gotta love that girl….

    Company’s Coming….

I am, admittedly, a bit of a neat freak. What I’m not very fussed on is the actual cleaning. Particularly mopping and  toilets. A few days ago, the Hubs asked if it would be ok if we invited one of his co-workers and family over for a barbecue this weekend. I agreed, as we haven’t entertained in a while. Then I remembered. The state of the house. We’ve only been home from our extended holiday since Sunday afternoon. Happily, I’m unpacked, but the copious amounts of laundry combined with the kidlings being home meant that my house was in full post-holiday state – frankly, a mess, since I haven’t done…

River Cruising: On to Avignon, Pont-du-Gard and Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Tuesday morning of our river cruise holiday on the River Royale found us in Avignon – from our stateroom, we could see the walls of the old city. This morning, our goal was to visit the Palace du Popes. The cobblestones in the streets were lovely (and a bit treacherous for my poor foot, and I was tempted to find a walking stick like Marty’s. Yes, it turns into a stool. No, I’m not 60. I will apologize now as you will soon discover my love of windows and archways. I really could have played with these and edited them but I’m too lazy I’m liking the images without filters.…

    River Cruising: Bienvenue a Arles

No longer lost in my laundry room, hidden in laundry, I’m quite missing the River Royale and the first class service we received. I’ve finally had a chance to sit down and pick through the gazillions (that is a real number) of photos I took and have a little look back over the trip, as well as write a few notes – wishing, all the while, that I had journaled more while on board. I meant to (just like I meant to post every day) but while I normally would tuck Pea into bed next to me and start writing, over the week of the trip, I found myself crashing…

    River Cruising, Family Style

I am an avid cruiser. In my late twenties, I started cruising with a group of friends. We took our first few trips on Carnival, but shortly moved on to Royal Caribbean. I introduced my soon-to-be husband to cruising a year or so before we were married, and then took a hiatus while we started our family. Last year, we introduced our kidlings to cruising a-la-Disney style, and they were hooked, too. This year, however, we opted for something different: River Cruising. Traditionally, the river cruise is populated primarily by senior citizens, and (if you were to base your information on feedback vehemently expressed on Cruise Critic) not a place…

    Anchors Away!

My bags are packed, the dog is at the kennel, the house sitter has the keys, and I’m ready for some sunshine. Tomorrow we head off to the (hopefully) sunny south of France for a different sort of holiday: a river cruise. I am sure some fantastic online French lessons (click here for more information) will come in handy on this trip. Admittedly, this will be nothing like the Disney Cruise we did last year – to the point where I’ve explained that to the kids that it’s not so much a cruise as a hotel that floats – there is no pool, no fireworks off the bow, and no…
