Wordless Wednesday – Little Water Faerie

***** *I won this gorgeous outfit in 2007 (!!!) on a Celebrity Baby Blog giveaway. The maker is Hoenshel Couture, and I wish their website was functional at the moment because the petticoats were beyond belief! I’m still in shock that she can wear this 3 years later!

    Princess in Training.

Last weekend, we took my parents to London for some sightseeing. One of my favorite touristy places there is the Tower of London. The Yeoman Warders do such an excellent, interesting (and humorous) tour, and the history in that one spot is staggering to me. (We Americans have a piddly 200-some years of history to contend with). Pea, of course, being the princess that she was, was most excited to see the crown jewels in the Jewel House. She was captivated. She was in awe as she watched footage from Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Her eyes were HUGE as we rode the moving walkway past the Crown Jewels. But forget…

No Dunce Cap Tonight (or, She’s not stupid, she’s got Character)

Macy, our new puppy, is a nightmare on a lead. Her recall? Well, she kind of has her own agenda, so she’ll come if she damn well pleases to. She jumps. She has chewed through both of my laptop cords. We won’t even discuss the excitement wees. She is also very clever, loving, clumsy and adorable. And smart. Did I say smart? She needs training. The first puppy training class was a head-burying disaster. While my friend Nadine sat in a chair across the hall, her pup Isla (a litter-mate of Macy’s) sitting tall and gazing up with adoration, MY dog was wrapping her lead around the leg of a…

Fill in the Blanks Friday – Let’s Talk Hair

    1. My last haircut was a few weeks ago – although, really, it was just a trim. The big job was getting new highlights to replace the summery blond ones I was sporting. 2. My most daring hair moment was my senior year in college (yes, sad). My hair was long, and the french braids I was wearing didn’t feel very professional, so I went to a salon and said “give me something different”. She cut it VERY short. I passed my roommate in the walkway to the cafeteria and she didn’t recognize me. 3. A hairstyle I’d never be brave enough to try is a super short pixie/buzz cut…

    The Cracked Pink Cup

One of my favorite books from childhood was “The Boxcar Children” by Gertrude Chandler Warner.  It is the story of four orphans, Henry, Benny, Jessie and Violet, who run away and live in an abandoned boxcar they found in the forest. Henry is old enough to do odd jobs to get a little needed money, and they furnish their boxcar home with goods found in a local dump. I remember being captivated with Benny (the youngest) and his cracked pink cup. I wanted a pink cup and a few mismatched spoons and my own playhouse with no rules. There was an innocence and simplicity that was endearing – and a…

    And Then My Heart Stopped

Its been a shaky start to half-term hols.  This morning, I loaded up the rental van (who names a car brand a “Seat”, anyway?) with my parents, Boo and Pea (the Hubs stayed home to puppy-sit and work) and headed south-west to Pembrokeshire. Let me start by saying that travelling is a challenge when your son has the bladder capacity of a shot glass. The challenge is compounded when you are travelling in what I would consider a pretty rural country. We made two pit stops in the course of a two-hour drive, one being, so proud to say, out the side of the minivan at the side of the…

    Fill in the Blanks Friday

(Photo by Photos Day! via We Heart It) 1. I am a Type-A personality, a worrier, a fretter, a dreamer, a planner. I am emotional and overly sensitive. I am a stay-up-too-late-get-up-too-early kind of gal. I am a disorganized woman who can’t function in chaos. 2. I wish I was more relaxed and laid back, and 25 pounds lighter. I wish I didn’t get so easily distracted. I wish I didn’t always forget where I left my keys, the remote, my pen, my coffee cup. I wish I didn’t yell so much. I wish the puppy didn’t wee on the floor. I wish it wasn’t such a pain in the…

    Dogs Don’t Wear Shoes

If you stop by my house at, oh, say, 8pm on any given evening, you will find me mopping. I know. It’s sad. Really, really sad. I hadn’t expected the floors to get THIS dirty. We are a no-shoes-in-the-house family.  The Hubs has been strict about this to the point that my kids typically pull off their shoes when they go into another person’s house. But, you see, I have a puppy. She is a sweet puppy, and she is very nearly housetrained. But she doesn’t wear shoes. For obvious reasons. And all the dirt on her feet – despite my attempts to wipe them dry at the back door…

    A Diva in the Making

The school had a Fashion Show for our fall fundraiser. Pea was asked to model. No, correct that she was asked to be “in de Fashion Show”. She came home from school, very excited: “Is dis week de Fashion Show? I’m excited to be in de Fashion Show!!! Mommy…what is a Fashion Show?” Never to take these things lightly, the Headmistress showed the children how to walk, how to turn, then pause and count to five (insert a lot of bobbing heads as they counted to five in their minds), bless her heart. One of the teachers commented all the girls were practicing in the school yard, one hand on…
