ROCKET SHIP, SOLO TRIP by Chiara Colombi – A Lovely Gift for Kiddos, Grads, & Those Making Big First Steps
It’s no secret that I ADORE books (duh, just LOOK at this website), and I especially love gifting books. I’ve long been a fan of Dr. Seuss’s “Oh, The Places You Go” for friends and family who are (A) book lovers AND (B) recent graduates. It’s a fun book with a delightful sentiment – BUT – I’ve done it for so, so long. And I’ve been looking for something similar to gift, just to switch things up. So when I discovered the book Rocket Ship, Solo Trip, written by Chiara Colombi and enchantingly illustrated by Scott Magoon, I put in a pre-order faster than you can say BLAST OFF! Oh,…

Books I Read in October
Yes, it’s November 6 already and here I am putting out an October list. I have an excuse though – on October 31, Covid finally caught up with me. (So help me, I do not want to hear one more word of “Covid is still around?” because yes, dearies, it so is, and my doctor says this current strain is about as nasty as the old one. Believe me when I say I regret delaying getting the booster, because I would have loved for this to be an easier week.) While I’m STILL testing positive, I’m feeling much better except for the cough (and I already have a chronic cough,…

Book Review: Answers in the Pages by David Levithan
I have to give a great big thank you to one of my teen’s former middle school language arts teachers for recommending Answers in the Pages by author David Levithan. It’s lovely, timely, and important. There are so many wonderful lines in this book that it was difficult to narrow down which to share, but this one hit me hard enough that I wrote it on a sticky note: “While the meaning of a book may be informed by the author’s intentions, it isn’t defined by them. Meaning comes from the combination of what the author puts in, and what the reader takes out.” As a writer, I can only…

The Engineer’s Wife by Tracey Enerson Wood
Today’s book recommendation is perfect for fans of historical fiction based on real-life history or characters. Tracey Enerson Wood’s The Engineer’s Wife was a wonderfully engaging, well-researched story of the wife of the engineer who designed and started the build the Brooklyn Bridge until he falls ill and she must take over the construction. NetGalley provided me with a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are my own! Review of The Engineer’s Wife The Engineer’s Wife follows the trials the both Captain Washington ‘Wash’ Roebling and his wife, Emily Warren Roebling, face. Professionally, Wash suffers decompression sickness from his work on the bridge and as Emily steps…

Book Review: Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance
Y’all, I’m speechless. Not because this book is so amazing – although it is! No, I’m left without words because despite all the raving I’ve done to everyone (in person and online) about Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance, I didn’t finish my review of it! How did this happen? This is one of my favorite books of 2017. Read on to learn why! I read Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance book in November and to be quite honest, it’s probably the reason why I didn’t get through as many advanced review copies as I would normally read in the holiday season (including a few Christmas reads.) I just had to slow…

Book Review: Exposed by Lisa Scottoline
I recently reviewed (and had a giveaway) for another Lisa Scottoline novel, a humorous memoir co-written with her daughter, Francesca Serritella titled I Need a Lifeguard Everywhere But The Pool. In it, I spoke about how it’s a delightful departure from her gripping mysteries.Well, today, I’m sharing one of my favorite beach reads of this trip, a title that returns to her Rosato and DiNunzio mystery series: Exposed. Exposed was the perfect beach read – one that required a heavy application of Coppertone 50 because I was glued to my beach chair. I’ve long been a fan of Lisa Scottoline’s mysteries, and this one was no exception. If you’re…
