The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary: Book Review

It’s release day for Beth O’Leary’s newest book, The Road Trip. I found this book to be a lot more layered and with more complicated and deeply-flawed characters than her previous books. It’s definitely a change from the typical feel-good book, and I think that’s ok. I really enjoyed it all the same. I received an advanced copy of the book from Berkley | Penguin Random House via NetGalley; all opinions are my own. I received an advanced copy of the book from Atria Paperback; all opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links that may earn me a commission if you purchase through them. SYNOPIS My Review I was drawn to this book first by its lovely cover, the comparisons to The Keeper of Lost Things, The Coincidence of Coconut Cake, and Practical Magic (ALL of which I loved) and by the synopsis. I love magical realism, and this was a…

The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin

Finally, I can share this gorgeous, visual YA fantasy by author Rachel Griffin. The Nature of Witches is an absolute delight, set in an alternative universe where witches control the weather. I could definitely see this book translated the big screen, too, as it has such gorgeous imagery. I received an advanced copy of the book from the Sourcebooks Fire via Netgalley; all opinions are my own. This post contains some affiliate links that may earn me a commission if you purchase through them. Synopsis for The Nature of Witches My Thoughts (a.k.a. where I rave about this book) The Nature of Witches is a YA fantasy book that I…

Magic For Liars by Sarah Gailey – Book Review

I’m catching up on all the book reviews I meant to do just before a polar vortex gripped Texas and knocked out all power1. The only writing I did last week was on paper, and unfortunately, the writing the week before that was mostly in my head. Sorry you didn’t get to read it. It was really good. Just like Magic for Liars was REALLY good. I loved it! (How smooth was that segue???) This post contains some affiliate links that may earn me a commission if you purchase through them.   1At least, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. SYNOPSIS     REVIEW I ADORED Magic for…

The Lost Manuscript by Cathy Bonidan – A Book Review

If you’re looking for something a little different – quirky and fun – check out Cathy Bonidan’s new novel The Lost Manuscript. I received an advanced copy of the book from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley; all opinions are my own. This post contains some affiliate links that may earn me a commission if you purchase through them. My Thoughts The premise of The Lost Manuscript was so interesting. Anne-Lise Briard finds a manuscript in a nightstand. While we don’t initially know the story it tells, it so moves her that she decides she MUST return it to the author. Sylvestre, the author, reveals that his manuscript was unfinished, and…

Two Christmas Romances (That Will Scratch Your Travel Itch)

Now that November and NaNoWriMo are behind me, I’m playing catchup on the backlog of AMAZING book ARCs I have.  I really struggled this fall reading Christmas stories before the Christmas season, but now that I’m digging into them, I’m sorry I waited. I’ve got two Christmas romances for you that have the comforting, heartwarming feeling of a Hallmark move AND, with their travel themes, just may scratch that travel itch you’ve got. Sarah Morgan’s One More for Christmas takes us to Scotland, and Sandy Barker’s The Christmas Swap main characters travel to Melbourne, Australia, to Penham, England, AND Breckenridge, Colorado. Many thanks to the publishers for providing me advance…

Missing Travel? 4 Books To Soothe Your Wanderlust

I love to travel because I think you learn as much about yourself as you do the place you visit. I’m longing to travel but not quite ready to venture too far with the ‘rona lurking. Instead of packing my bags, I’ve been pouring myself a glass of wine and settling into a comfy chair in a shaded part of my patio, living vicariously through characters in books. Today I’m sharing four books where the main characters venture abroad, and in the process, push themselves out of their comfort zones! The Little Bookshop on the Seine, Paris Is Always A Good Idea, 13 Little Blue Envelopes, and Eighty Days to…

Book Review: Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson

Real Men Knit is the first book I’ve read by Kwana Jackson, who also writes romances under the name of K.M Jackson. I definitely need to get my hands on her Sugar Lake series, as it sounds like it is right up my alley as well. If you’re a fan of contemporary romance, this slow burn romance set in a knitting shop in Harlem may be just the book you need for a quick escape or beach read. Disclosure: I received an advance copy of the book from Berkley Publishing Group via NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.  All opinions are my own. This post may contain affiliate links.…
