Book Review: Morning in This Broken World by Katrina Kittle
I read Morning in This Broken World by Katrina Kittle a few months ago. It was a book I’d been awaiting, as I’m a huge fan of Kittle’s novels. It was well worth the wait. And needless to say, a review here is more than overdue here. To be clear: the delay is more a factor of life getting in the way than any reflection of my opinion on the novel – because I loved it. Synopsis My Thoughts At this moment, I’m sitting in my bedroom, currently isolating with Covid. The irony of this is not lost on me, but it feels all the more relevant to write the…

Books I Read in October
Yes, it’s November 6 already and here I am putting out an October list. I have an excuse though – on October 31, Covid finally caught up with me. (So help me, I do not want to hear one more word of “Covid is still around?” because yes, dearies, it so is, and my doctor says this current strain is about as nasty as the old one. Believe me when I say I regret delaying getting the booster, because I would have loved for this to be an easier week.) While I’m STILL testing positive, I’m feeling much better except for the cough (and I already have a chronic cough,…

Book Review: The Wish List by Ruby Hummingbird
I generally have a knee jerk reaction any time a book publisher provides a description that reads “A charming page-turner” or “the feel-good book of the year”. It tends to set up some pretty high expectations that quite often aren’t met. However, in the case of The Wish List (or as my cover reads: The Wish List of Albie Young), “charming page-turner” is an accurate description, and I was not disappointed. Read on to learn more about this sweet, poignant tale. Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC of the book. This post contains affiliate links. The Matchmaker’s List by Sonya Lalli – A Book Review
I was given an advanced reader copy of The Matchmaker’s List by NetGalley and I couldn’t put it down. I also struggled a bit with how to review it, as I hate spoilers, and this one has a doozy of a plot device midway through might make your eye twitch a bit with discomfort. Ultimately, though, I really enjoyed the story. Read on for my review, which contains affiliate links (because this girl needs her coffee). The Matchmaker’s List is described as a romantic comedy, but I think it is so much more than that – I’d put it firmly into women’s fiction, as this is not all light and fluffy,…

Book Review: The Lemonade Year
Looking for a change of pace from my recent reads, the gift of book mail in the form of The Lemonade Year by Amy Willoughby-Burle filled the bill nicely. This book was emotional, complex, and beautifully written. Check it out: The Lemonade Year by Amy Willoughby-Burle is a wonderfully written story about family and forgiveness. It is not, at times, a happy story. This is not a light read – Nina’s family puts the “d” in “dysfunctional”, and the characters are all, in their own way, a bit broken. It is this brokenness, however, that fascinated me, as well as the secret the family kept (which you will likely…
