Exploring ORIGINS at the Perot Museum

Sitting in the Hoglund Foundation Theater at the Perot Museum yesterday, I listened as Professor Lee Berger explained that the discovery of Australopithceus sediba began with his then 9-year old’s comment: “Dad, I found a fossil.” That moment would eventually lead to this moment at Perot Museum of Nature and Science. They, in partnership with the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) and the National Geographic Society, have brought the 1.97 million year old specimen to Dallas for a Origins: Fossils from the Cradle of Humankind. Speaking a museum membership holder, I can’t wait to bring my family back to explore this exhibition! Origins: Fossils from the Cradle of Humankind The exhibition, which…

Exploring the Newly Redesigned Being Human Hall at the Perot Museum

As I’ve made it known here, I am a HUGE fan of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and my family has held a family membership since we’ve moved to the DFW area.  One of our favorite areas is the Being Human Hall which explores us as humans – our origins, our DNA and how we work. While it never gets old, the Perot recently completed a redesign the Being Human Hall –  the first since the museum’s opening in 2012.  I was recently invited to explore the hall before it’s public opening, and the transformation it has undergone is amazing. The central theme that guides the hall is…

Summer Fun at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science

If you are looking for something to do in the Dallas area this summer, look no further than one of my favorite local destinations: The Perot Museum of Nature and Science. There is so much to explore there this summer that I wanted to share all the goings on! I was recently invited to Family Media Day at the Perot Museum, where they kicked off the morning with a film in The Hoglund Foundation Theater with DREAM BIG 3D. Narrated by Jeff Bridges, the film is a celebration of human ingenuity behind engineering marvels big and small. I will warn you – I cried, several times. Yes, in a movie…

I’ll be at the auto show tomorrow for a media event at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center, and you can follow along as I share all the fun on Twitter, Instagram, and Periscope (@mommy_grrl)!  We’ll all be sharing using the hashtag #DFWAuto, so be sure to look for us! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I fell in love with my pretty red Toyota Prius hybrid when I lived in Wales – its fuel…

Holiday Fun at the Perot Museum (+ Giveaways)

Dallas friends, be sure to set aside time over the holiday break to head downtown for a family trip to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science!  Yesterday I zipped into the city for Family Blogger Day at the Perot, where we were able to explore the new exhibits and check out the new 3-D films in the theater, and I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed!   Dr. Ron Tykoski, a paleontologist and fossil preparator at the Perot Museum, was on hand to talk to us about Ellie May, a Columbian wooly mammoth who was discovered last year outside of Italy, Texas in a gravel pit during excavation.  They’ve…
