Book Review: A Dog’s Way Home

Review If you’ve read author W. Bruce Cameron’s previous dog-centric books (A Dog’s Journey, A Dog’s Purpose), you know that he is a master at both tugging on our heartstrings and telling a wonderful story from the perspective of a dog. In his newest novel, A Dog’s Way Home once again finds that sweet spot of humor, emotion and drama as Bella’s story unfolds and captures the love, devotion and personality of this sweet dog. You’ve heard stories of dogs traveling hundreds of miles to find their beloved owners – now we get to see it from the unique perspective of the dog herself as she tries to get home to her Lucas…

What I’m Reading Wednesday: House Trained

If you are looking for a sweet tale about love, acceptance and forgiveness, look no further than Jackie Bouchard’s novel House Trained. Alex Halstad is an interior designer who is struggling to keep her business afloat. Her husband, Barry has no idea of the dire straits they are in financially. They live in a beautiful home, impeccably decorated by Alex. Childless by choice, their sweet labradoodle Marie is the object of their love and affection, much to the dismay and thinly veiled criticism of Alex’s mother and sister. Also, a handy tip on what to do when you get the single lit cup light on your Keurig, which according to the company, if you have done all the recommended de-scaling tips, means that machine is DONE. (It’s not.) These may seem like two very disparate subjects,…

Show Me Saturdays: What I See

Most mornings, this is the first thing I see when I open my eyes. There is no need for an alarm clock. Her stomach is more accurate than an atomic clock. On days when my husband is home, she leaves me to sleep. She knows if she tries, I will roll over and ignore her until 6:30 a.m., so she will pester my husband to be let out at 5:30 a.m., every morning, like clockwork.  Because I have scolded him in the past for feeding her so early (and establishing a bad habit),  after letting her out for a morning wee he will now return to bed. At least…

    Wake-up Call

At 6:02 this morning, I was woken by a nudge in the back and a wet nose in my ear – the dog, looking for her breakfast and a play with the ball. She was terribly persistent, poking at my face with her paw and dropping her ball on my head until I gave up all hope of further sleep and stumbled downstairs. The Hubs is away on a business trip, so I was somewhat expecting this. Macy typically wakes him around 4:45, and lately even earlier (because he possesses no thought process whatsoever before HIS first sip of joe and therefore is enabling her bad habits) to the point…
