Book Review: The Little Shop of Found Things by Paula Brackston
The danger of writing at the library is that I rarely leave without grabbing a few books from the “New Books” section, no matter how many books are waiting at home. Book Review: Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance
Y’all, I’m speechless. Not because this book is so amazing – although it is! No, I’m left without words because despite all the raving I’ve done to everyone (in person and online) about Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance, I didn’t finish my review of it! How did this happen? This is one of my favorite books of 2017. Read on to learn why! I read Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance book in November and to be quite honest, it’s probably the reason why I didn’t get through as many advanced review copies as I would normally read in the holiday season (including a few Christmas reads.) I just had to slow…

Review: Alice Hoffmann’s The Rules Of Magic
I fear this may be a review that should have involved a thesaurus, so I will apologize in advance for the repetitive use of the word “magic” — but that is what this book is. It is MAGICAL. Seems to be a bit redundant, given the title, but I can honestly say this may be my favorite Alice Hoffman book to date. The Rules of Magic is the prequel to her 1995 novel Practical Magic. You definitely do not have to have read it to enjoy this book (but knowing that it was the prequel, I confess I did get my hands on a copy of Practical Magic to re-read…

Despite the pastry cravings, I’m glad I didn’t have to wait for Amy Reichert’s return…

What I’m Reading Wednesday – Stories With A Touch of Magic
For having been on a vacation last week that entailed very little sitting, I’ve been tearing through a fantastic list of books on my Kindle. This week, I want to share two books that are perfect escapes. Since I first read Sarah Addison Allen’s The Sugar Queen I’ve been a fan, and I have been eagerly awaiting her most recent book, First Frost. . First Frost is a story of two magical sisters, Claire and Sydney Waverley, their equally magical daughters (Mariah and Bay), a temperamental house and a cantankerous apple tree. Sarah Addison Allen returns to Bascom, NC to pick up the story of the Waverley sisters ten years after we last…
