    Puppy Love

Walking to the car with Pea last week, she looked at me and said, “I’m going to marry Huw.” Well, this was news to me. I thought she was going to marry Alfie when they grow up. I don’t know how much say Alfie had in this, so I’m not sure how he’ll feel about this new turn of events. I asked her “what about Alfie?” She thought a moment, shook her head, and said “I love Huw.” So you can imagine my surprise when she came out of school today with a handmade card…from Huw! (Which her big brother promptly scribbled on, so I can’t share its lovely cuteness.)…

    Exercise much?

With the intent of warding off another early-morning meltdown, I warned Pea at bedtime that I might get up early to exercise and so I wouldn’t be in MY bed if she came looking for me for a morning snuggle. (She typically crawls into our bed at early o’clock, fights for space, then tosses and turns until we get up.) She thinks about it for a moment and replies “Ok.” Then, “Can I watch you exercise this week? I haven’t exercised in about a week. After I exercise, I stretch and cool down.” She says this all matter-of-factly. I fought back a snort. Finally, trying not to laugh, I inquire…

Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before

This morning, as Pea was getting ready, I found her in the throes of  yet another struggle with tights. It’s always something: the choice of color, the pattern and inevitably, how they don’t “fit right”. She fussed with them, and she said “Mommy I don’t like these tights. They don’t feel right.” Her whining became louder. “Mommy, Mommy, these tights are just a problem!!” I replied,  “Pea, I don’t think it is the tights that are the problem….” when she interrupted me with a shriek, screaming: “I am NOT the PROBLEM!!!!” Something tells me that we’ve had this conversation before.

She’s Not Always a Princess, or, It’s Just Semantics.

One Sunday morning during the first few months we were married, the Hubs and I were sitting in church, watching the adorable little girl in the pew in front of us. She was hugging on her dad when she leaned back, her arms around his neck — and head-butted him. Hard. The Hubs grinned widely. “I want a little girl like that”. Flash forward to yesterday. *** Boo bursts into the room, sobbing. “Pea punched me!” I look at him dubiously. He stands about a foot taller than her, and outweighs her by about 20 pounds. “Why would she do that? Did she really do that?” From the playroom, I…

Flashback Post: The Way of Girls

I’m taking a well-earned break from blogging (read: the Hubs won’t let me near the computer on my holiday) so I’m posting an excerpt of an early post. I still cringe at the length of this one (from April 2009). And to my UK friends reading this: in the US, “pants” + trousers. Please stop your giggling now. What I love about Boo is the simplicity of getting dressed in the morning. Oh, sure – he does have requests (“No jeans today, Mommy”) – but that is somewhat a given. Boys are easy to dress. Jeans, tees, running pants. Everything is pretty much mix and match, like Garanamals without the…

Flashback post: You Can Never Over-Accessorize!

I’m taking a well-earned break from blogging (read: the Hubs won’t let me near the computer on my holiday) so I’m posting a few of my favorite early posts. Enjoy!!! Watching Maddie, I can’t be sure what she loves more: shoes, purses, or other accessories – necklaces, glasses, etc. She embodies all the great things about being two and being a girl – dressing up and having fun! The girl LOVES shoes, better so if they are red. (Who can blame her – every girl needs a pair of red shoes!) We ran to the mall the other day, and Miss Maddie was properly outfitted for shopping in a cherry-covered…

    Remembrance Sunday

*This is not a typical post for me – but I wanted to share it for the benefit of my Dad – a “gratuitous Grandpa post”, if you will.* This past Sunday was Remembrance Sunday here in the UK. Here in Hay, it was recognized with a parade from the town clock to a local church for a service, and then to the War Memorial in the center of town for a ceremony that culminated in the laying of poppy wreaths. (For my American pals, Armistice Day is observed on November 11, same as Veterans’ Day in the US. It was traditionally observed with a  two-minutes silence at 11:00am; according…

Wordless Wednesday – Little Water Faerie

***** *I won this gorgeous outfit in 2007 (!!!) on a Celebrity Baby Blog giveaway. The maker is Hoenshel Couture, and I wish their website was functional at the moment because the petticoats were beyond belief! I’m still in shock that she can wear this 3 years later!

    Princess in Training.

Last weekend, we took my parents to London for some sightseeing. One of my favorite touristy places there is the Tower of London. The Yeoman Warders do such an excellent, interesting (and humorous) tour, and the history in that one spot is staggering to me. (We Americans have a piddly 200-some years of history to contend with). Pea, of course, being the princess that she was, was most excited to see the crown jewels in the Jewel House. She was captivated. She was in awe as she watched footage from Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Her eyes were HUGE as we rode the moving walkway past the Crown Jewels. But forget…
