An American in Wales

Now, where was I?

I’m sure there are times when my husband wonders what I do around the house all day.

Some days, I do too. Oh, its not that I’m daydreaming. Or sitting on the couch blogging watching You Tube editing photos in Picnik eating bon-bons all day.

No, I have a different problem. I am easily distracted.

Like yesterday…..

Tired of the clutter in my house that accumulated over the holidays, I set about trying to restore some order. Which eventually led me to my living room. Where my Christmas decorations and tree still stand. (Hangs head in shame.)  Taking on the tree was too overwhelming, so I decided to attack all the Christmas-y knick-knacks and Santas and whatnot. Manageable, right?

Apparently not, at least for those of us with a 3-minute attention span.

You see, once I started taking the Santas and snowmen off of the shelves, and took down the tulle garland of Christmas cards, I could then see how truly cluttered my bookshelves were. Clearly, I haven’t been listening to all the design show advice on leaving space in your bookshelves. No, mine were jam-packed with books, along with an assortment of other…stuff.

So, of course, I started rearranging shelves. But once I did that, I realized that some of the books were no longer grouped appropriately. So I then rearranged the book collections, too. And then culled some books out, to create more “space”.

And then brought those books to the bookshelves on the second floor. Which then needed reorganizing. And upon which I found items that belonged in the guest room. Which needed straightening. And then “Ooh, there’s my laminator…now I can finish my project”…in the dining room….where I discover that there were chocolate-orange cookies in the Christmas gift hamper I was determined to empty…and they needed a cup of tea…but my favorite mug was in the dishwasher…oh, look, it  needs to be emptied…

Do you see where this is going?

Unfortunately, I’m not actually finished with one task before I get sucked into another. So I tend to make a lot of loops around the house, as rediscover the havoc I’ve left in my wake, and piles from one room are reformed in another.

I could really use a professional organizer.

Or a shovel and a dumpster.

Whatever.   I can’t be the only one that does this? <Please tell me I’m not.>

Ultimately, after much effort my bookshelves now look like this.

Just don’t turn around, lest you see THIS.

Tomorrow. Yes, I’ll tackle that tomorrow.

THe question is how long it will last….um…until my next walk through town? The downside of living in “The Town of Books”.
Haven’t found a house yet with bookshelves in it, so heaven only knows what I’ll do with all of it when we have to find a new house this summer!!!

Mine are still up too. At least you atempted to get yours down. I was considering starting a new “tree in your house all year long” trend LOL.

were it not for the fact that it is a real tree (and shedding everywhere) I would contemplate hanging plastic Easter Eggs from it and calling it a day.
Since, you know, they took down all the Christmas candy and started putting out the Easter candy already!
