Spotlight on: Winning Maura’s Heart by Linda Broday

I’m way behind on book reviews but popping in with a spotlight on what looks to be yet another lovely heartfelt historical fiction by New York Times bestselling author, Linda Broday. Winning Maura’s Heart is the first book in her new series: The Hangman’s Daughter and it looks to be amazing based on the reviews I’ve read so far. (I’ve long been a fan of Linda’s historical fiction as they mesh a sweet, clean romance with a western setting. However, Christena’s review over at Forgotten Winds had me putting this book on order asap!)

Read on to learn more about the book, check out some notable lines from the story to wet your whistle, and enter the giveaway! Oh, and there are more reviews and other fun things surrounding the book on tour, so be sure to visit my fellow book tour bloggers listed below!

And now she is homeless, along with her sister and the group of children in their care. Armed with pure grit, she finds a nearby mission where the nuns agree to take them in and set up an orphanage. But trouble is just around the corner . . .

The Calhoun brothers are identical twins but on opposite sides of the law. Cutter is a deputy Marshal, Jonas an outlaw. When Cutter attempts to break his brother out of a notorious gang, they are shot, and Maura finds one of them wounded, close to the mission – but which brother is it?

As the stranger regains his strength under Maura’s care an attraction between them grows, yet how far can she trust him? And why has he brought trouble to their door? With the orphanage under threat can Maura trust this handsome stranger both with their safety and with her heart?

NOTABLE QUOTABLES

A Selection of Notable Quotables From Winning Maura’s Heart
By Linda Broday:

“I’ve come to love this place, the children, and the peace it offers.” Calhoun dropped his voice. “I’ve come to care deeply for you, Maura. But I wish for things I can’t have.”

* * *

With a gentle finger, Calhoun lifted a strand of hair from her eyes. “Try to find someone else. There are hundreds of men better than me. I’m no good for you. Don’t you see? It’s better this way.”

* * *

“I lie awake and wonder what it might be like to kiss a man, to feel his arms holding me.”

* * *

Maura clutched the front of his shirt and kissed him back. At almost thirty, her first kiss was like a dream.

* * *

The noisy scene stirred the thankfulness inside and tears rolled down Maura’s face. She’d waited so long for a family and now had one in spades. All the lonely years were forgotten. She loved and was loved back and she’d fight tooth and nail to keep them safe. Calhoun noticed her in the shadows and winked. Then a smile formed that took her breath.

* * *

Calhoun held Maura for several long moments, his eyes closed, soaking up the feel of her. But that too came to an end. He stepped back. “You’re the finest woman I’ve ever seen. Truly gentle and kind in words and actions. If there was any way…” His voice broke and he turned.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of western romance novels and short stories. Watching TV westerns during my youth fed my love of cowboys and the old West and they still do. On a still day, I can often hear the voices of American Indians, Comancheros, and early cowboys whispering in the breeze here on the high West Texas plains. We refer to this land as “cowboy” country and men here still ride the range just as cowboys of old. My stories focus on family life and almost all have children.
