The Escape Artist
Yesterday morning, Macy made another break through the hedge into the adjoining field to chase a few sheep.
Not good.
It is beyond frustrating, to be honest, and very scary. I certainly don’t want to find myself in the position of collecting a very dead young dog after having been (quite within his rights) shot by the farmer.
It’s even more frustrating when I see dogs – a springer spaniel in the mix, who has to be as happy to chase birds as any spaniel – lying quietly in the grass, mere yards away from a falconry display.
Where the birds are TIED DOWN.
This is not my dog.
My dog would have been pulling at the lead so hard she’d likely choke herself – even in a harness.
Which is why we are off to take a “livestock avoidance” course in Abergavenny later this month. Yes, there is such a thing.
Will it work? I don’t know – if you are a reader of my blog, you know that I have a hard enough time managing my children on the best of days – and they are lovely.
I pretty much suck at discipline.
And this is pretty much gonna be like a boot camp – two days of training, from 10-5.
I don’t think the trainer will particularly like me much. My kids have sucked the well of patience dry.
Pray for me.

Oh my. I think the dogs in the picture are either sedated or fake. Maybe in a state of disbelief. My family has always had bird dogs and this picture is …. shocking.
Will pray for the boot camp beat down!
