Lone Star Book Blog Tour: Why I Hate Green Beans
Top Five Live Music Concerts
by Lincee Ray
When I was growing up in East Texas, we didn’t go to many concerts. Most of the guys I knew already played the guitar or piano, so we would just sit around a campfire and listen to them try to bang out the correct notes of Extreme’s “More Than Words.” When I moved to Houston, things changed.
First of all, every spring Houston hosts a very big rodeo, complete with bull riders, calf scrambles, roping, riding, and a huge musical event to top the night off. You’ve never experienced true joy until you’ve screamed at the top of your lungs with the smell of manure burning your nose.
Second, on any given weekend, one of the many live music venues in Houston will be rocking out to a top-tier artist. Do you want a big huge stadium? We’ve got it. How about a more intimate setting? Done. Outside or inside? Hill or flat surface? You name it, Houston has it.
Not surprisingly, my most memorable live concerts were all in Houston. In no particular order, I give you my top five:
- Reba McEntire: We sang “Fancy,” all 70,000 of us, at the top of our lungs.
- Boyz II Men: The sign of a good concert? I didn’t have a voice the next day.
- Mumford & Sons: I may have cried. No judgment.
- George Michael: The “Faith” video played behind him. Hello, 1987. I’ve missed you.
- Taylor Swift: My friend Autumn somehow got us into the VIP section. And all was right with the world.

I like that your top 5 live concerts are from a range of music genres.
Jenn
She has a great range of music interests, doesn’t she? This was a fun addition – I’ve never done a top five list like this on a book review!
