Ten Things Of Thankful: Rainy Days Edition

It’s raining. Again. I could be all “April showers bring May flowers” but the flowers and trees and grasses really just bring on allergic reactions, so it’s a struggle to appreciate the “ending a drought” aspect of the current situation.  Particularly since the volume of rainfall is making me consider brushing up my Ark building skills, and also because we’re in the process of building a pool, and we’re only to the “dig a giant hole in the ground” stage. Given the current forecast of rain for the next 15 days, it becomes a bit worrisome. So I shall dig deep into my soggy wellies and offer up my ten things of thankful…

Tips on Tuesday: On Cleaning Skunks and Fixing Keurigs (not at the same time)

Monday was a…well…MONDAY in every sense of the word. As in, it was a pretty stinky day. Literally. But, like I tell my kids, every problem is an opportunity to learn something new, and oh boy, did I ever. And I want to share a few tips with you, specifically on what to do when your dog gets sprayed by a skunk. Also, a handy tip on what to do when you get the single lit cup light on your Keurig, which according to the company, if you have done all the recommended de-scaling tips, means that machine is DONE. Always (Ask to) Read the Label

Organic, simply defined, means made from naturally occurring ingredients. Organic does NOT equate to non-toxic. If you harbor any doubts about this, consider this: some wild mushrooms, toads and raisins are all “organic”, but they are very poisonous to dogs. Wake-up Call

At 6:02 this morning, I was woken by a nudge in the back and a wet nose in my ear – the dog, looking for her breakfast and a play with the ball. She was terribly persistent, poking at my face with her paw and dropping her ball on my head until I gave up all hope of further sleep and stumbled downstairs. The Hubs is away on a business trip, so I was somewhat expecting this. Macy typically wakes him around 4:45, and lately even earlier (because he possesses no thought process whatsoever before HIS first sip of joe and therefore is enabling her bad habits) to the point…

    Waiting

Yesterday morning, Pea slept in because she was poorly. Our spaniel Macy bounced in the midst of the chaos that occurs as jackets are put on, keys jingle in hand, bookbags are sorted, and the Hubs and Boo depart for the day. I settled into tidying the kitchen despite not having eaten; I thought I’d wait for Pea to awaken as she hates to eat breakfast alone. It was very quiet in the house, and as I headed upstairs to peek on on my sleeping angel, I spied Macy. Standing watch. Waiting for her girl. She had been scolded earlier for jumping on the door – she was keen to…
