    I Read 67 Books in 2019. (67-ish.)

Goodreads has reported that I read 67 books in 2019. This beats my goal of 50, so at least I can say I definitively kicked butt on ONE of my goals for 2019. (Let’s not talk about the others, which all involve writing.) I realized that this is NOT a complete list, as this list primarily covers all the books I have REVIEWED for NetGalley. It was way more, and my baseboards prove it. (So does my waistline, sadly.) It doesn’t include a few I’ve finished but still need to review (shhh), and it probably doesn’t include anything I checked out from the library. We won’t talk about the plethora…

Five Christmas Romances to Curl Up with this December

Confession: I find it difficult to get into Christmas novels when it’s (1) not even Thanksgiving and (2) it’s still 97º here in Texas. I was naughty. I waited until closer to Thanksgiving to begin to read these five lovely, uplifting Christmas romances and then share them with YOU in December, when you’re REALLY in the Christmas spirit. Except that this year has been more disorganized than most, so I’m even later getting this out. Which, really, should be perfect timing, actually. You’ve probably knocked out most of your list over Black Friday and Cyber Monday (well done, you)! Now, you’re looking for something to curl up with while you…

    DIY: Easy Christmas Countdown Chain

Kids love to count down the days until Christmas! There are many ways to do it, too. Perhaps you have an advent calendar (for which I JUST bought goodies to fill ours – a few hours after it should have been opened, but hey, no judgment, right?).  I needed something the kids can keep up with – one that reflects the passage of time and got the kids excited to see the days getting closer – and one that they would do themselves because I have enough on my plate –  so I made a Christmas countdown chain, and it is so easy, it’s almost ridiculous. Each evening, your kids tear one…

Book Review: Why Stuff Matters by Jen Waldo

Why Stuff Matters is the second book written by author Jen Waldo. Her debut novel Old Buildings in North Texas was a funny, quirky, and slightly dark work of fiction that felt truly original (you can find my review here). This novel was a strong follow up to her first and did not disappoint – I loved it! While the author has returned to her Caprock, Texas setting, this is a standalone book. Read on to learn more about the book and author. I was provided a copy of the book for review purposes; this post may contain affiliate links. On Accomplishments, Goals, and Donuts

On the internet, the question has been (repeatedly) raised: “There’s only ONE MONTH left in the decade. What are your accomplishments? “ This question has been weighing on my mind, and perhaps if it had been worded differently, as in “what have you done” versus “what are your accomplishments”, it wouldn’t niggle at me so (and yes, I’m that nitpicky.) If I had been asked “what have you DONE” I could say I lived in the UK, I traveled throughout Europe, I moved to Texas, I went to the American Music Awards (thank you, Kohl’s), I wrote a lot of blog posts, was published in an anthology and on Mamalode,…

One Last NaNoWriMo Attempt with Pants(ing)

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Well, here I go again, down the same path of insanity, but this time I’m hoping for a different outcome than the last by changing up one little thing. Kind of. What is this path, you ask? Well, today is the first day of NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month. The goal of NaNoWriMo is to squeeze out the first draft of your novel – 50,000 words worth of it, at least – in the month of November. That works out to about 1,667 words a day, give or…
