So, About Media & Book Deprivation Week (A Diary)
As I mentioned in a post last week, I’m working through through The Artist’s Way with a group of creative friends on Facebook. Week Four fell on February 25-March 3 and was to be my “media & book deprivation week”. The intent was to not read and not fall into the abyss that is social media, which would then allow my internal creativity to explode, and I would write and write and write. Yeah, so about that. A big part of The Artist’s Way are the Morning Pages, a sort of brain dump where you write whatever is in your head – at least three pages worth. If you have…

It’s Media Deprivation Week. (Stop Laughing.)
I’m in a group that is working through Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way. It’s a book on discovering – or recovering – your creative side, and in theory should be helpful with overcoming a creative block. This is, however, my fourth time at taking on this book, the second with this group. I’m already behind on my weekly tasks, and as we enter Week Four, I’m foreseeing a possible fifth attempt. I don’t know if that is optimistic because I know I’ll give it a go again, or fatalistic because I’m assuming I won’t get through this one, either. Now, depending on which edition of the book you have,…

The Matchmaker’s List by Sonya Lalli – A Book Review
I was given an advanced reader copy of The Matchmaker’s List by NetGalley and I couldn’t put it down. I also struggled a bit with how to review it, as I hate spoilers, and this one has a doozy of a plot device midway through might make your eye twitch a bit with discomfort. Ultimately, though, I really enjoyed the story. Read on for my review, which contains affiliate links (because this girl needs her coffee). The Matchmaker’s List is described as a romantic comedy, but I think it is so much more than that – I’d put it firmly into women’s fiction, as this is not all light and fluffy,…

The Outlaw’s Mail Order Bride by Linda Broday – Blog Tour Review (and Giveaway!)
Today I am the last stop on my first Lone Star Book Blog Tour of 2019 and I’m bringing you The Outlaw’s Mail Order Bride by Linda Broday. If you are in the market for a great romance novel and you love historical westerns, the first book in author Linda Brody’s new Outlaw Mail Order Brides series is an excellent start! With a gorgeous cover that’s a familiar throwback to the romance novels my momma read when I was a kid (the same that I would pilfer from her stack of books), The Outlaw’s Mail Order Bride is an updated take for today’s romance reader – this isn’t a fluffy “handsome cowboy rescues…

She built a world from tissue boxes.
My daughter always has been a bit of a collector, so exploring the recesses of storage bins, closets, and drawers usually comes with an element of surprise. You never know if you will turn up a tin full of tiny brown acorns, a zippered pouch full of colorful plastic butterflies, long forgotten, or a handful of long dried-out markers tumbled in with an assortment of empty mechanical pencils. Tidying was usually an entertaining enterprise, should you be in the right mindset. I was cleaning the play room earlier this week, and tucked into the space between my daughter’s craft desk and the wall was a pile of square tissue boxes,…
