Re-living the past

Christmastime always makes me sentimental. Maybe it is the unwrapping of Christmas ornaments, reliving the memories that they invoke…I’m not sure, but it’s guaranteed that Holiday Inn (the movie – not the hotel) WILL make me tear up, and that I’ll share happy moments with Boo and Pea as they rediscover their favorite holiday decorations.

Then again, I’m a sentimental fool, anyway, so any sappy movie, holiday or otherwise, or a home movie will also make me weep. The same goes for my husband (sorry baby, I had to call you out.) I get particularly blubbery over my wedding video – there really was a very special feeling in the church that day.

In reading over Mama Kat’s writing prompts this week, one really resonated with me: if you could re-live any moment in your life, what would it be? I’m blessed to have many happy memories, there is one that is kind of….erm…fuzzy.

I would love the opportunity to relive it.

My engagement.

It was a complete surprise, to be honest. We were going out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants – North Pond Cafe in Chicago. We walked there from my apartment, had a fabulous dinner, but on the way out of the restaurant, he had a limo waiting. He’d obviously got in touch with a service such as this provider found at www.elitelimoct.com/new-canaan-limo-service/ long before our dinner date. The limo then took us to the park outside of Lincoln Park Zoo – the park and the zoo being one of my favorite places – and I was pretty much in shock. And then he got down on one knee.

And then buzzing kind of filled my ears….shock…and he said a bunch of meaningful things that he had worked really hard at writing….and honestly…only one word in 10 registered with me.

It was a hard admission, after the fact.

After I said yes, the limo took us to Pops for Champagne, and we celebrated. It was a lovely, amazing evening.

And, given the chance, I would love to go back to that night, and somehow pull myself together so that I could hear – and remember – every lovely word he said.

A late admission to Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop – head on over and check out all of this week’s entries!
