An American in Wales

The Half-Full Glass (fill ‘er up)

My friend Thom posted this on his Facebook page on New Year’s Day. I’m a longtime fan of Calvin and Hobbes, and this particular cartoon smacks of hope and possibilities, of new beginnings and unlimited options.

It doesn’t think about what everything will look like when the snow melts, and the world is grey, slushy and messy. It’s not a glass half-empty perspective, which I realize I often have – and my poor, dear worry wart of a son has inherited.

This is glass half-full, baby.

That is so not me.

I wish it was.

Life would be so much easier if I was more optimistic. I’d KNOW I’d be in a new, skinny swimsuit for our next vacation. Hell, I would likely already be in it, because I wouldn’t be snarfing down food from anxiety-driven late night snack attacks.

And, for the record, the aimless snacking is NOT caused by a deficiency in magnesium or potassium or what-have-you. It’s caused my a deficiency in positive thinking and an excess of Type-A personality, which I was born with.

There’s no dietary plan for a personality change.

Now, that would be cool. I know a few people who could use a chill pill pizza. Or pie. For real. And I’ll take the first slice, thankyouverymuch.
