Fourth of July Drink Roundup

Happy Independence Day!

We have big plans tonight to head to Freedom Fest before the FC Dallas game, and then watch the fireworks from the stadium.  Since we won’t actually be home, I ditched my  plans to do a holiday drink video, also because my liquor cabinet basically contains varied flavors and brands of vodka and an unopened bottle of Welsh whiskey, and I didn’t quite get to the liquor store. (Texas doesn’t sell booze in grocery stores like they did in Illinois, and  confession: I’ve been too lazy busy to go find a store.)

Besides, after perusing Pinterest and my favorite vodka and blogger websites, I’ve decided that there are already plenty fun posts out there, so I’m going to round up a few of my favorites here for you procrastinators out there, instead.

Kat Bouska from Mama’s Losin’ It makes a Jazzy Blue Lemonade. Ok, so it’s mostly blue, but if ou throw a few cherries in there, you have your festive touch. And who doesn’t love a vodka lemonade in the summer?

I’m a huge fan of sangria, so how about a festive one for the holiday?  Simply Swider has a Star-Spangled Sangria that is easy, and you can mix up the taste by the wine you put in. If you want a lighter taste, I like the Arbor Mist fruit wines.

This has my name written all over it – in fact, my favorite sangria recipe is going up next week.

Pip and Ebby have a great solution to make any drink more festive: fruity ice cubes! I think these would be lovely in a wine spritzer (don’t knock me for watering down a wine – it’s what I do when a bottle we open is a bit harsher than I’d like…just add a bit of club soda – or lemon-lime soda, keeping it 3 parts wine to 1 part spritzer) or lemonade.

That looks really refreshing!

And there you go!

Whatever you do today, be safe. If you are playing with fireworks or sparklers, put some safety glasses on those kiddos, please, and remember they are much hotter than you think.

Happy Fourth of July! How are you celebrating?
