    Baseball Anxiety

I’m an anxious person by nature. I am also a lifelong Cubs fan, but I confess, one who isn’t as enamored of televised baseball games as I am sitting in the ballpark, beer in hand. But this series – and particularly this game tonight, Game 7 – has me chewing my nails to the quick from anxiety. I know people who would use 50 mg cbd capsules to deal with this in other cases, something that isn’t for me but seems fair. I know some people even use marijuana to calm their nerves instead of just the cannabinoid. With weed so accessible in some areas due to it being legalized…

    Here we go with NaBloPoMo!

Oh, the inside of my head is a very confusing, distracted place to be. I don’t function well with clutter around me. Facebook is NOT my friend. I have turned off all sounds and notifications, but I am still too easily distracted. I write better first thing in the morning – mostly – but I only get to the gym if I go the first thing in the morning. This is a problem. My to-do lists are helpful – when I remember to write them. My brain – it just isn’t focusing like it once was. I should probably get my thyroid checked, but I every time I go online…

Small Great Things – A Must Read Novel

I have a lot of advanced review copies of books on my Kindle, and because of this, it’s not difficult to lose track of the themes of the books as I queue them up to read.  It was a wildly unfortunate coincidence that the day I opened Jodi Picoult’s newest novel Small Great Things was the same day that five Dallas police officers were killed in a sniper attack during a protest rally. My heart was in pain for the lives lost, and I prayed that no bystanders were injured in the process. I was angry and saddened about the inequity and racism that still exists. So when I opened the book to discover that part of…

1492: A Novel of Christopher Columbus

In recent times, Christopher Columbus’ success in discovering the New World has been repainted to reflect some of the horrors that he brought upon its inhabitants, in turn making some question whether he really should be given a national holiday here in the U.S. The child in me who grew up making collages and paintings of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria each October was definitely disillusioned. There is much more to Christopher Columbus, however, than the outcome of his journey to the Americas. In his book 1492: A Novel of Christopher Columbus, the Spanish Inquisition & a World at the Turning Point, Newton Frohlich paints a fascinating picture of Columbus in the…

Three Amazing Things About You by Jill Mansell

There’s something about curling up with a Jill Mansell novel that makes me feel I’m back in the UK. And with Three Amazing Things About You in hand (along with a few chocolate biscuits to dip in said tea), I was not disappointed. The Wedding Shop – A Book Review

I confess: one of my favorite guilty pleasures is the TLC reality series “Say Yes To The Dress”.  When a book set titled The Wedding Shop – one with dual timelines, 80 years apart – was offered up, I couldn’t resist. It went straight to the top of my reading pile. Only because of crazy technical stuff (which I still don’t understand) taking out my blog while I moved it to a new host could I not share it with you when intended – so, yay, lucky you, this book is available now. Come see why I enjoyed it so much! Series: The Hearts Bend Series   Author: Rachel Hauck   Genre: Contemporary Romance/Women’s Fiction   Publisher: Zondervan/HarperCollins   Release Date: August 16, 2016   Pages: 384  …
