    Fill in the Blank Friday

Happy Friday, everyone! It’s been a great week, and Lauren has picked some happy blanks to fill. So let’s get at it and fill those blanks! The best surprise ever would be a holiday trip to someplace warm and sandy that I didn’t have to plan or do much of anything once I got there. Peter Island or St John would be fab. Hint, hint. My wedding is my most favorite memory, followed by my honeymoon on Peter Island and seeing my kids smile for the first time. What, you thought I would have just one? The hardest, but most worthwhile thing I’ve ever done was breastfeeding my kidlings. I…

    Some Things Never Change

School these days – boy, things are different. We learned to type on typewriters. In high school.  My children are learning to type on laptops, in kindergarden. We learned addition and subtraction. My kids are doing things like “Number bonds” and “chunking”. We had hot cooked meals and homemade desserts. (Ok, so MY kids still get this, but we’re lucky.) Our school district back at home? Everything provided by a food service, delivered shrink wrapped and really pitifully less-than-healthy meal options. Nachos, anyone? We were taught to tie our shoes in kindergarden. Now, parents teach their children to tie their shoes (which is why my 8-year old still doesn’t really…

Leave your Diet At the Door.

I will confess – I am a long time WeightWatchers member. I had some success with it after the birth of my second child. And again when we moved to the UK and I discovered NEW comfort foods like sausage rolls and lemon madeira cake as I settled in. But always….something happens – a holiday, followed by one of the kids falling ill, and I fall off the wagon. It’s a great program so long as you track. But when you stop….*sighs* Look, I’m generally a healthy eater. I maintained a healthy weight right up until the birth of my kids. I know what is good for me, how I…

    Happy Blogiversary to Me!

Today is my four year blogiversary!!!!!! *throws confetti* *cuts the cake* That’s right – four years ago today, I started this blog. It was just a wee little blog over on Blogger, started simply as a way to keep a visual record of my growing family (because I’m crap at keeping up with the baby books). Yes, it’s still a near invisible little blog, sitting quietly in its little corner of the interwebz. That’s ok – I know that there is a lot more competition for your attention out there in the blogisphere, and I still believe I have a solid little blog. I appreciate the followers that I have,…

    The symmetrical girl

It was the end of the day, and time for bedtime reading. We have a blanket chest at the foot of our bed where the kids typically set their reading folders; piled high on it were our pillow shams and various throw pillows. There wasn’t much room left, so when the Hubs set Pea’s book bag next to Boo’s they were perpendicular to each other, and slightly overlapping. Not good, from Pea’s way of thinking. She flipped them parallel, but then the nylon handles were facing each other, and the lettering and school logo weren’t aligned. Unacceptable. She then rotated one of them so that they were evenly aligned, and…

    Saturday is Caption Day!

I caught my daughter hamming it up at National Sea Life Aquarium in Birmingham recently. This one is begging for a caption so give it your best go! If you aren’t captioned out, the head back to  Mammsaurus for more captioning fun!!!

    Waiting

Yesterday morning, Pea slept in because she was poorly. Our spaniel Macy bounced in the midst of the chaos that occurs as jackets are put on, keys jingle in hand, bookbags are sorted, and the Hubs and Boo depart for the day. I settled into tidying the kitchen despite not having eaten; I thought I’d wait for Pea to awaken as she hates to eat breakfast alone. It was very quiet in the house, and as I headed upstairs to peek on on my sleeping angel, I spied Macy. Standing watch. Waiting for her girl. She had been scolded earlier for jumping on the door – she was keen to…

    Fill in the Blank Friday

Happy Friday everyone! It has been a long week with poorly kidlings in my house, but with Boo back to school and Pea considerably perked up, I think everything will be back to normal for the weekend. This cheers me up considerably! It’s a happy coincidence then that Lauren over at The Little Things We Do has chosen the theme of “cheerful” for this week’s blanks. My timing has been off for the past few weeks so I haven’t been able to play along, so I’m really happy to be linking up. I’m also now craving a trip to Dunkin’ Donuts for a double chocolate doughnut…if only the closest one…
