Snakes and Ladders on the Go.

I am very possessive of my iPad.  It’s mine, and I’ll be honest, I hate sharing it with my kids. Because of this, I am very selective of which apps I add for the kids (lest I spend all my time coming up with excuses as to why they cannot use Mummy’s iPad); in particular, I like apps that we can use together.  One such app is iPieces Snakes and Ladders by Jumbo Games. The iPieces games cleverly combine the fun of old-fashioned board games with the technology of the iPad touch-screen.  The Snakes and Ladder set comes with four pawns and two “ladders”, each covered on the bottom with…

    Cybher Meet and Greet

This past summer I went to Cybermummy – my first ever blog conference, and it was a fantastic experience. I took home ideas for my blog, including ways to improve my photography and vlogging, and I had the opportunity put faces to so many fellow bloggers and Twitterers. I am very excited to be going to Cybher on May 12, catching up with everyone, learning some new things and drinking wine. I must confess that a small part of the giddiness may be attributed to being able to enjoy proper showers, uninterrupted, in the room I’ve booked at the Strand Palace. (The house we moved into this summer has two…

    Willy…or Won’t He?

My daughter is very proud of her latest crafty creation… Um…a dog? No – it’s a dragon, right?? No… It’s an alien. A boy alien. * * * * * “That’s its willy”, she announces. I squint. “um..this?” “No, Mummy! That’s his leg. THIS is his willy!” Silly mummy. I didn’t ask her why she put a willy on her alien. I didn’t say much about it (burying head in sand) until she asked to bring it to “show and tell”, and in the rambling that followed I heard “and his willy”… Whoa, nelly. I explained that “talking about one’s private bits – yours or anyone else’s – isn’t proper.…

    A Pin…and A Dream

It takes a lot of trust and more than a pinch of faith to rent your home to strangers. You can only hope that you will find someone who will love and treat your house as if it were their own (and pray that they take good care of their own things.) Unfortunately, our last tenants were pretty much schmucks, and only treated the house as if it were there own when it came to installing things and making changes (all of which required permission that was not requested). Other than that, they pretty much trashed it. It took a lot of elbow grease (and a dedicated handyman) to get…

Just Stick Her in the Shed

I read an article today about authorities recently discovered a body stored in a Clearwater, Florida storage unit. Apparently, the unit’s renter was behind on fees, and when owners notified them that they’d be selling off the contents, she said “My grandmother is in that storage unit.” Now, at this point in the article, I’m thinking Grandma’s ashes. Nope. She was embalmed and in her casket. In a storage unit. My initial thought was “Who the hell does that?” Seriously – what is the point? I would think cremation would be cheaper if you don’t want the hassle of burying her….and is she in there with the rest of her…

Fill in the Blank Friday: The Travel Edition

New mama Lauren of The Little Things We Do is busy lovin’ on her baby girl, so today’s blanks were created by Erin of A Symphony of Grace. She has a lovely blog, so take a peek and give her some love, too! This week’s blanks are all about travel – one of my big loves, and something that we are trying to make the most of while we’re living in the UK so to take advantage of the relatively short distance to all of Europe. (I love the fact that flying from London to Barcelona is slightly shorter than flying from Chicago to Orlando!) And now, let’s get to those blanks! 1.…

My Life Stories…such as they are

Everyone has those stories that you tell over and over, some which you love to tell…and some which you wish no one would ever, EVER bring up again. Ever. I will admit, I must be a perfectly boring person, because I have LOADS of these stories to recount about my friends (where I was an observer)….but me? I can’t seem to remember anything actually memorable. Ok, none that are memorably funny. No falling – repeatedly, dependably, frequently – off of bar stools (hey, Jim! :waves:) or peeing on my white cowboy boots in the parking lot of the local fun days (that would be Christie) or flirting so long with…

    Finding a Way Back

I have been absent. (Hopefully, I’ve been missed…) Now, in my head, I’ve written a lot of posts. (They were darn funny as well – practically brilliant!) There are a few fun reviews in the pipeline, too, so just stay tuned. However. Getting them into my Mac? Not so easy. It’s been a rough go lately. Overwhelmed. Depressed. When I get like this, I find that I tend to get a bit OCD; my focus narrows in to one or two things, and it’s all I can do to sort out those things. For me, it was getting an upcoming trip booked – one which, to be honest, I’m hesitant…

Top Trends of 2011 (That I Want To Forget)

My family went to Center Parcs between Christmas and New Years for a bit of a getaway. We had a wonderful time, but I have to admit, while we were there, I saw some fashion trends that pretty much made me want to wash my brain or gouge my eyes out. Some things you just can’t unsee. Thank you, Mama Kat, for reminding me that I wanted to write about this, anyway. Yes, another list. (I think I mentioned that I love them). And yes, it is a bit…snarky. 5. Feathers. Feather hair extensions…feather earrings. Unless you are under 14 – or Cher – please, don’t. 4. Animal knit hats….on…

    Lists and Goals and Randomness

Isn’t she the cutest stinkin’ thing you ever saw? Where was I??? * * * I like lists. Lists are good. To-do lists? LOVE them. I love the feeling when I can check things off. Completion. Satisfaction. Success. Do you know what I don’t like? Resolutions – I rarely keep them, and then I spend more time berating myself because, yet again, I failed. In all honestly, I do much better at Lent. Giving something up or making a change – with a 40 day timeframe – is much more manageable concept, and as they say, you can make or break a habit in 30 days…. But still, that…
