Where the Magic Happens and other Ramblings
I swore I wouldn’t do it again, and here I am. Vlogging. Do you know why I struggle with it? Beyond the fact that I hate the sound of my voice on video? I hate the eye-roll and slightly bemused look that the Hubs will give me after he views this post. His last comment was only “Yes, you actually do sound like that.” I don’t think he gets me, and this blogging thing. And it annoys me, just a titch. But. Mama Kat had posted a bonus vlog question on her writers’ workshop earlier in the week, and while I initially chose (and responded to) another prompt, this one…

We Can Laugh About This, Right, Mom?…MOM?
My mom has a great sense of humor. And she is pretty damn tolerant. At least, I’m hoping. Today, I blew it. Totally dropped the ball. I didn’t call my mom. *hangs head* Yes, it is Mother’s Day. In the US. Where she lives. Unfortunately, it is not Mother’s Day in the UK. That was last month. Yes, we sent flowers. Yes, I sent a card – which I remembered to buy last month (because there are no Mother’s Day cards around in May), although, because it was last month, it went into the post, erm, a bit later than intended. But. Still. I didn’t mean to spend so much…

She Sure Looks Yummy
Travelling to Vienna and being without a proper Wi-Fi connection for nearly a week (I say proper because, theoretically, the hotel had one – it simply did NOT like my Macbook), I somewhat lost my blogging mojo. I am ever-so-determined to get back on track, as I have lovely photos and fun stories to recount. Oh, behave – I’m not asking you to look at our vacation slideshow, now am I??? Anyhoo…. On our recent trip to Vienna, we treated the kids to a horse-and-carriage ride around the city. It was lovely – the kidlings were captivated, they were happy, and we all had fun. At the end of the…

Fill In The Blank Friday
Oh, if ever there was a week I was glad it was Friday, it was this one. Yes, the kidlings had a short week since Monday was a Bank Holiday, but four days or five, the first week back after a holiday is brutal for them, especially Pea, who pretty much burst into tears the minute she walked out of school (yesterday as well as) today. I’m trying not to take it personally, but wow, she was a mess tonight. Let’s just say that, on the tantrum scale, the one around suppertime (which we were eating on the patio) probably registered on “the neighbors will give us a happy going…

Flashback Friday – One Easter Sunday
I will call this Flashback Friday – but really, two weeks isn’t much of a flashback (unless you’re Lindsay Lohan and you’ve just had a WHOLE lot to drink…) Lost blog mojo. Whatevs. I did mention that I’m behind, right? Otherwise, it might seem odd that I’m blogging about Easter two weeks past…… We were in Chicago for Easter this year, and were lucky enough to have my sister and her family come up from St. Louis as well. Of course, Easter morning we had to have an Easter egg hunt. Unfortunately, it had rained pretty hard overnight, and we were hiding plastic eggs, so the backyard wasn’t looking like…

10 Reasons Why I Could Not Be a Housewife From ANY County
I’ll admit it. I did watch the Real Housewives from Orange County when it first came out. They were ditzy. They were ridiculously rich, and watching them drop thousands on a piece of jewelry – or a car for their kids – was unfathomable to me. They were, at times, ridiculous. But they weren’t overly mean, or nasty, or snooty about their money. Hell, two of those ladies made their OWN money. However. The rest of the Housewives? I just didn’t get into it. New York? Obnoxious. Preening. They wanted everyone to KNOW they were rich. Atlanta? Damn, those bitches be catty. But really, I could not be a housewife.…

I’m Not Laughing
The following should be a happy, make me laugh Monday kind of post. But it’s not. (Sorry.) Because I’m a tad aggravated. I have a few clear priorities when I book a hotel: family friendly. Good location. Breakfast included. (when you’re travelling with kids, you REALLY don’t need to sort out a breakfast place, too.) Oh, and wi-fi. I am a blogger. My head is teeming – teeming, I tell you – with blog ideas, especially after another full day in Vienna. I could ruminate on how could all these women possibly stay thin in a land of caffe macchiatos, apple strudel, Sacher tortes and Wienerschnitzel. Seriously, I haven’t seen…

Flashback Friday – the Fashionista
At 18 months, Pea was already showing signs of being a fashionista. When this bag (a Not Rational cargo bag) arrived in the mail, she petted it. For hours. (Not that I blame her. It did smell lovely and was smooshy soft.) Yes, she IS drooling on my handbag. I should have known that this was a portent of things to come. That, at 2-1/2, she’d be prancing out of the shoe store with the red patent leather shoes that I did NOT want to spend $45 on – but she looked so bloody pleased with herself, trying on the shiny red shoes (that I did not ask for, but…
