In My Handbag I Have A….

Some say that you can tell a lot about a person by what they carry in their handbag. You’re curious, aren’t you? You want to know what is in my handbag? The simple answer is, well, everything. I am the original Girl Scout. (Forget all that stuff about Boy Scouts always being prepared. They’re just little MEN. Men ask us to hold stuff in OUR handbags.) This is my favorite purse. It’s from Belen Echandia (@BelenEchandia), and I *heart* it so much that I have one just like it in tan. I am a bag junkie; I will confess to being a  sample sale shopper.  I’m not working myself, so extravagant…

    The Gallery: Tomorrow

This is such a late entry to The Gallery that it almost IS tomorrow. As I was contemplating this week’s theme, yet another squabble broke about between my two – and I flashed back to a time when they were younger and got on much better together. A time like this: This photo was taken when my kiddos were two and four. She LURVED him, and he was, well,  pretty tolerant of her. Today? Not so much so, at least in the mutual tolerance department. They fight like cats and dogs. She only needs to look at him cross-eyed, and I hear a wail of “Muuuuuuum”. This is the same…

Q & A (All you didn’t need to know. Curious?)

A while back when I added a page for the blog to Facebook, I put a call out on Twitter for asking for people to “Like” my page so that I could get my own URL for the page. Thankfully, enough people responded to my plea for me to make it happen. Since one good turn deserves another, when In The Powder Room put out a similar request so that they could reach 300 “Likes” (sheesh – and I only was asking for 25…) I retweeted their request….and coincidentally soon after reached their goal. She (likely mistakenly) attributed this to my tweet. To prove to me that I have more…

In Which I Answer a Question (and Thusly Prove I Shouldn’t Vlog)

I will admit, I am pretty awed by the bloggers out there who produce really fun content via VLOGGING. Jenny on the Spot, June Cleaver Nirvana, Mommy Words – I don’t know where to start – they rock at vlogging. Not only that, but they’re successful at it. YouTube is a fantastic platform that can even bring in money if you do it successfully (result!) but I just haven’t got the knack for it. No doubt I can Visit websites that give me tips on how to vlog and grow on the platform, but it just seems like a whole other World away from blogging! I will also admit that…

    If You Really Knew Me

If you really knew me, you would know that I am self-conscious around people I don’t know. Painfully so. If you really knew me, you’d understand that I’m horribly awkward meeting new people. Mostly because I’m afraid I’m going to get tongue-tied. Or stammer. Or spit when I talk, or something equally mortifying. Think of the moment in “Bridget Jones’ Diary” when our girl Bridget arrives at a garden party dressed for what she thinks is a “tarts and vicars” party. Awkward, no? If you really knew me you would know that my poker face is crap, so in situations where I need to mingle, it’s highly likely that I have…

Ali Baba and the Absentee Blogger

Despite my intent to blog on a more regular basis, sometimes life gets in the way. Last week, that roadblock took the form of a pantomime. I’m was a nervous wreck, mostly because I’m really struggled with my lines. While I realize that one aspect of the “panto” (as it is casually referred to here – I know my friends back home that sitting confused, picturing white-faced French guys pretending to be stuck in a box) is that there is always quite a bit of ad-libbing on the night of the performance — that doesn’t sit well with a Type-A perfectionist such as I. I also panicked because the second…

    Project We: Waiting

Webster defines waiting as: To stay or rest in expectation; to stop or remain stationary till the arrival of some person or event; to rest in patience; to stay; not to depart. [1913 Webster] This, clearly, is not the correct word to use for what my children do – as when they “wait” there is absolutely no “resting” or “remaining stationary”, and clearly, no patience involved: “Maaaaaaam, when do we get to go?” “Moooooooommmmmm, how much longer do we have to stay?” “Mooooooooooooommmmmmm, how many sleeps until Santa comes?” *sighs* I think Boo stomped into the sitting room no less than 15 times in 14 minutes asking when it would…

    Dear So and So

Friday is here, and thusly, another opportunity to unload…and spread some gratitude. Read on… Dear Pea, Screaming “I don’t like it here! I want to move away” because I didn’t make you hot dogs for supper/asked you to wash your hands before dinner/asked you to stop kicking your brother will not change my mind in any way, but may cause me to help you pack your bags, just to prove to you that you really, really don’t want to leave home. Love, Mommy ———– Dear Vax, I’d like to register a complaint with the Vax vacuum that I purchased from you. I’m not sure what blind person designed it, but…

    I *HEART* Twitter

Today’s writing prompt asked me to share some of my favorite tweets. I’ve catalogued 10,049 tweets. Obviously, I can’t go through them all, but I did make it through the last year’s worth. What I found? I tweet a lot about the puppy, my kids, whining, the other wine, and coffee. Don’t believe me? I find that I tweet quite a bit about my kids, and to be honest? Mostly about my daughter, her tantrums, and the incredibly slow pace with which she approaches life: Last year, I spent a lot of time tweeting about the puppy and the chaos that follows her:   Thankfully, she has turned into a…
