A Question to Sink Your Teeth Into
Yesterday, Boo lost another tooth. Acting on behalf of the tooth fairy, I swapped out the tooth for a one-pound coin. (Damn the mum of the friend that left a fiver – that was a joy to explain…let’s just say that, just as my kids know that the Santa’s at the malls, fetes, and whatnot are helpers because Santa needs to be working on his list and sorting out toys, I explained that sometimes a mum thinks that a child should get more, and so they sneak in and take the coin and leave a bigger amount.) Because, you know, the tooth fairy can’t carry more than a quid. Anyhoo,…

Flashback Friday – Cousins
I stumbled across this photo when going through some old files, perfect for Flashback Friday. I don’t know if I should admit that the blue TERRY CLOTH outfit I’m wearing was one of my favorites at the time. (Think it may be a holdover from the ’70s, but I’m not sure.) I’m not sure exactly how old it is (other than early 80’s), but it’s a bit depressing as it reminds me exactly how much older I am than my cousin Sarah (yess, that cutie is none other than @prsarahevans, sitting on the lap of @marianslibrary)….although, it IS proof that I once possessed awesome metabolism! We’ll be heading back to…

She Drives Him Crazy
Looking at Mama Kat’s list of weekly writing prompts, one jumped out at me immediately. (Actually, it reached out, grabbed my by the neck and bitch-slapped me, as if to say “oh, no – don’t go here, you’re only asking for trouble”.) Fortunately, I’m a bit slow on the uptake. Unfortunately, he’s slammed with work right now, and not much interested in my weird proddings. So I imagined asking the Hubs “What do I do that drives you crazy?” Well, there is the cuticle biting. (I know, I know…don’t lecture me. But since the typical manicure lasts only about 12 hours before I chip the polish, I just don’t get…

Project We: Kindness (or, I Love It When My Kids Don’t Kill Each Other)
I love my children. They are very sweet, loving and kind. This is not just my own biased opinion – this has in fact been pointed out by their teachers at school. They show a compassion for other children that I think is beyond their years sometimes. Until it comes to each other. Why is it that siblings fight like cats and dogs? Why is it that my extremely tall, off-the-growth-chart son can be brought to tears by his 1.1 meter tall sister? (Ok, so when she sat on his head, it DID finally knock that bottom tooth out, so maybe I didn’t show the proper concern that I should…

Dear So and So
Happy Friday! That means it is time for “Dear So and So”, where I take a moment to get just a few things off of my chest. Here we go! ———- Dear Pea, Having a meltdown of colossal proportions whilst trying to explain to your Daddy that you were recognized at school for your good manners is, well, ironic. Let’s remember to count to 10 when we get upset. Love, Mommy ———- Dear Tenant, We pay an exorbitant rate quarterly to Terminix to keep our your basement tidy and pest free. HOWEVER. If you are not going to let the scary-looking-but-very-kind Terminix serviceman into the house, he can’t get rid…

Bread Lust
It was only the second day of Lent, and I fell off of the sacrificial wagon already. I was working my way through the farmer’s market last Thursday, putting together the evening meal and thought “I need some good crusty bread”. Never mind that I gave up bread for Lent. The sauce that goes on top of my salmon dish just begs for some bread, either something crusty or….OHMYGODISTHATFOCACCIA??!! Did I mention that I’m on Weight Watchers, and that I’m doing really well? While you can eat anything you want on Weight Watchers (so long as you point it), I have discovered that I lose my weight much more quickly…

Drinks are on Me!
To look at my bulk mailbox, I will never again have to work a day in my life. First – there’s the long-lost relatives. Honestly, I did not know that I had so many deceased relatives in Nigeria, let alone those who have willed me money. I mean, a lot of relatives on my mom’s side have olive complexions, but I’ve always attributed this to our Italian genetics (along with the rampant emotions, flaring temper/colorful yelling, fast speech and wild hand movements that accompany it). Now, I gotta wonder…. I am also amazingly lucky, apparently, as I have won so many sweepstakes (which I didn’t even realize I entered) that…
